The Resident Doctors Association union (RDA) had given notice of a four-day strike from 15 to 19 April.

The strike notice was withdrawn today, with doctors saying they omitted to notify the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment.

The RDA would not be interviewed but said it had opened a ballot for another strike later in April.

DHBs said they were pleased the possibility of disruption to services had been avoided.

They said mediation between the parties was still scheduled for tomorrow, although there is no sign of compromise by either in the row over their expired pay deal.

A decision is also still awaited from the Employment Relations Authority on whether urgent facilitation is needed.
