Getting a drink at a bar in Palmerston North any later than 3am is now a thing of the past.
Police have successfully lodged an application to reduce the licensing hours of the Red Doors bar, which they say had a monopoly on drinking between 3 and 6 o'clock in the morning.
When the owners of the bar, previously known as the Lounge Bar, applied to renew its licence, the police opposed it.
Police say that from June 2005 to August 2008 there were 33 alcohol-related arrests between 3 and 8 in the morning. Sixty percent of those people indicated their last drink had been at the Red Doors.
