Donation made to couple with no home

A housing company in Christchurch is helping a couple build a new home after their old one was demolished due to leaks.

Gillman Wheelans director Hamish Wheelan says the company has donated an undisclosed sum of money to Kathleen Bennett and Graham Hollobon.

Their house was torn down last week. It is thought to be the first house in the South Island to be demolished due to water damage.

Gillman Wheelans has placed a notice in The Press newspaper, asking others to contribute to rebuilding the house.

Mr Wheelan says the couple lost their home through no fault of their own and will need the help of other businesses to rebuild.
