New police station to be opened

6:51 am on 24 February 2009

A $22 million new police station in Whangarei will be officially opened on Tuesday.

The building, on the corner of Cameron and Walton Streets, is the largest commercial development project in downtown Whangarei for some time.

The new station has 20 cells, areas for meetings with community groups and room for 200 staff.

Inspector Paul Dimery says officers will all be under one roof after working out of four separate buildings for years.
