No pager system system faults in Northland, says Telecom

Telecom has found no transmitter problems that would cause pager failure in Northland.

Firefighters in the Far North had reported their pager system had become erratic, with many volunteers missing callouts as a result.

They said in some cases that had made them late for fires, or left teams short-crewed.

Telecom says technicians had replaced an antenna at one Whangarei site but any impact would have been small, as it had back-up coverage.

Telecom says it is talking to the Fire Service about the national paging service and any improvements that could be made.
