Police in Christchurch are seeking two youths who stabbed a disabled man in a daylight attack in the suburb of New Brighton.
The man has a limp and drags his foot. He was walking with his bike through Hampshire Park when the youths demanded cigarettes and money last Tuesday afternoon.
When the man refused, one stabbed him in the hand with a knife, causing an injury that required surgery, police say.
The victim wrestled the knife off his attacker and stabbed him in the buttock before both youths ran off.
The main offender is described as Polynesian, possibly Maori, aged 14 to 16. He was of medium build, with short black hair and a wispy moustache.
