Staff placed on leave during Beckham match review

Two senior Auckland Regional Council staff members have been put on leave until a review of spending on last year's loss-making David Beckham football match has been completed.

The game between LA Galaxy and the Oceania All Stars in December resulted in a loss of almost $1.8 million for the council.

Last month council chief executive Peter Winder announced a review of expenditure. The Auditor General is also investigating the loss.

A council spokesperson says Mt Smart Stadium group manager John Lynch and the general manager for parks, Lance Vervoort, will remain on leave until the review has been completed.
