Tribute to late racing commentator

5:10 am on 21 March 2009

The racing industry will pay tribute on Saturday to a colleague who died in a car crash on Thursday morning.

Trackside commentator Darren Tyquin was killed just north of Belfast in Canterbury after failing to take a bend in the road.

A horse part-owned by Mr Tyquin will line up at the Riccarton racecourse today in his memory.

The horse will be ridden by jockey Patrick Holmes, who was also in the car.

The New Zealand Racing Board says Mr Tyquin had worked in Canterbury since 2006 and was known as a passionate and dedicated caller.
