Three charged over tomahawk attack in Waihi

Three people have been charged over the aggravated assault on a man in Waihi in Hauraki district.

The 50-year-old was punched in the head and struck with the blunt end of a tomahawk before being kicked several times as he lay on the floor on Monday.

The man underwent surgery for a broken jaw.

The accused entered the man's home while he was having dinner with his two teenage daughters.

A 42-year-old woman from Waihi, her son, 24, of Auckland and a 17-year-old Waihi man have been charged with burglary, assault, wounding with intent to cause grievious bodily harm and assault to injure.

They will appear in Waihi District Court on Tuesday.
