The woman was attacked on Westgate Drive in Massey about 8.30am on 29 July and died at the scene.

A 63-year-old man known to the victim was arrested the same day and charged with murder and breaching a protection order.

He made a brief first appearance at the High Court in Auckland this morning, assisted by a Mandarin translator.

Justice Moore continued suppression of the victim's name and the name of the defendant until his next court appearance.

The man was remanded in custody without plea and will next appear for a case review hearing on 16 October.
