A judge at the High Court in Dunedin has reserved his decision following a judicial review on Thursday of the Otago Regional Council's involvement in Dunedin's enclosed stadium project.

Queenstown resident Basil Walker the council is acting unlawfully in contributing $37.5 million to the $198 million stadium.

Justice Lang told Mr Walker it was not the role of the court to review the merits of the council's political decisions over the stadium.

He could only examine the processes it followed and determine whether they were in accordance with the Local Government Act and the council's Long Term Community Plan.

Justice Lang said he would release his written decision within a week.
