The man's death will be referred to the Coroner.

Police said their thoughts were with the man's family at this time.

The Auckland Council said it has been working with Lime and the police following the death of the rider.

Lime said it is deeply saddened by the news and is working with the authorities on an investigation into his death.

The director of regulatory services at Auckland Council, Craig Hobbs, said the council has been in contact with Lime since hearing about the accident on Monday.

He said the council is in the final six weeks of phase two of its trial with Lime, and it will be evaluating what it has learned over that period.

He said safety is paramount, and balancing this with the demand for micro-mobility transport options is something many cities around the country, and the world, are grappling with.

Earlier in the week in an unrelated incident, a man was charged with careless use of a vehicle causing injury after a woman was hit by a Lime scooter.

The man appeared in the Auckland District Court and entered no plea before being granted interim name suppression.

He will be back in court next month.
