Call for liquor store licence revoke after sting

3:23 pm on 13 July 2009

Authorities want a South Auckland liquor store that was caught in a sting selling alcohol to underage customers closed down.

The shop was one of three caught in an operation run by police and Manukau District Licensing Authority.

Manukau City Council Liquor Licensing Inspector Paul Radich says two teenage volunteers went into the shop and, when asked how old they were, they said 15.

He says the owner of the store came out and looked for the sting team but didn't see them, and went ahead and authorised the sale despite knowing the girl's ages.

Paul Radich says the two sellers, the owner and manager of the shop, which is not being named, face criminal charges of selling alcohol to minors.

Mr Radich says the case is due to go before the District Licensing Agency on Friday, when he and the police will ask for the license to be revoked.

A total of 32 Manurewa and Mangere shops were checked during the operation.
