Man sought after Christchurch bank robbery

Police are seeking witnesses to a Christchurch bank robbery.

A man allegedly approached a teller at the Westpac Bank in St Martins and handed over a note saying he had a handgun and demanding cash.

He left with nearly $1,000.

Security officers chased the man to a nearby New World supermarket, where he took off on a BMX bicycle down Wades Avenue to Prossers Road.

The man is described as pakeha, in his mid-20s and about 180cm tall.

He was wearing an orange Tui-beer beanie, a black puffer jacket and black shorts and shoes.
