Name suppression has been lifted for a man charged with the murder of a man in Christchurch on Tuesday evening.

Andre Delamare, 41, died in an ambulance on the way to hospital after he was found lying in Olliviers Road with stab wounds.

Baz Edmonds, 39, appeared in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday afternoon charged with murder, assault and an unrelated charge of cultivating cannabis.

Interim name suppression was granted until midday on Thursday so his parents could be advised of his arrest.

He was remanded in custody and will reappear in the district court on Friday afternoon.
