Food queue outside City Mission

12:06 pm on 24 December 2009

There's a queue for food parcels outside the Auckland City Mission on Thursday morning.

The mission says it has seen almost 2000 people in the past two weeks, double the number for the same time last year.

It says families first started arriving for food pacels around three weeks ago.

City Missioner Diane Robertson says she's never seen queues like this, with up to 30 people waiting outside to get in.

Ms Robertson says demand has been driven up by those who have lost their jobs.

She says the mission needs ongoing financial and food support from the public.
