Man adrift now safe ashore

A man who was adrift in a small inflatable boat near the entrance to the Wellington harbour is safely ashore.

Police say he got into trouble on Sunday afternoon when the boat's motor stopped working at Pencarrow Heads.

A Westpac Rescue helicopter went to his aid, but the man eventually managed to make his way to shore unaided.

Police say severe winds meant the man was in extreme danger and going to sea in Sunday's conditions was "not a bright thing to do".
