A police specialist dive team to search for an Auckland man who is believed to have drowned at a Whangarei beach.
Shoan Mafileo, 20, was wading along the Ngunguru sandspit beach with friends on Easter Monday - when he was caught by a freak wave and swept out to sea.
Sergeant Cliff Metcalfe says the sea should be calm enough for police divers to search the area tomorrow morning.
Mr Mafileo's Niuean family and friends are camping on the beach, keeping watch as the search continues.
