Hastings residents took to the streets on Friday to protest at Government plans for a community probation facility near the main shopping centre in the suburb of Flaxmere.
In January the Department of Corrections agreed to look at alternative sites for the facility but last week confirmed the Flaxmere site originally chosen remained the most suitable.
On Friday about 300 residents demonstrated against the decision, saying they won't give up the fight to stop the facility from being built.
