Crack down on under-age drinkers using fake IDs

About 30 young people will appear in the Hastings District Court this month for using fake identification cards to get into bars.

Police there have been cracking down on the use of fake ID cards by people aged under 18 since bar staff alerted them to a higher than usual number of forged documents being presented.

Senior Sergeant Ross Smith says most offenders have been using their driver's licences and altering their birthdate.

He says young people need to be aware of the serious consequences of forging documents.
