An unattended heater is blamed for a fire in a Lower Hutt house.
The Fire Service was called to the address in Norris Grove, Avalon, at about 10.30pm on Thursday.
A man in his 30s escaped the flames.
The Fire Service says the bedroom was gutted, but about 80% of the house was saved.
