A Maori group replanting sand dunes on the coast north of Dargaville, has obtained a grant of $10,000 from the ASB Community Trust for its work.
Hua Rakau Trust Ki Omamari chair George Nathan Patuawa told Waatea News the voluntary group has also benefited from scientific advice on how to combat the erosion caused by prevailing winds along the west coast.
He also says many of the volunteers are elderly widows who would appreciate some younger blood to help with the work.
