Councillors have extensive list of minor expenses

Two Manukau City councillors who have spearheaded criticism of credit card spending have themselves been making extensive expense claims.

Dick Quax and Jamie Lee Ross attacked the card use of mayor and super-city mayoral candidate Len Brown, prompting Mr Brown to publicly apologise.

Council records show the men each made about 300 claims from 2007 to 2010.

Among Mr Quax's claims was one for $7 mileage to the ANZAC Day ceremony in 2009, and while Mr Ross claimed $14 for the same reason.

Jamie Lee Ross says his expenses are comparable with other councillors, and within council policy.

Both he and Dick Quax say claims for ANZAC Day mileage is because the ceremony is an official council function.
