Breach of trust stops murderer's parole bid

7:28 am on 11 September 2010

Convicted murderer Jan Yorke has been denied release by the Parole Board because of a breach of trust regarding her university attendance.

Yorke and Mark Goodwin are serving life sentences for murdering his wife, Nicola Goodwin, in Taranaki in 1995.

Until recently, Yorke has been allowed out of prison to attend an undisclosed university.

But the board says she has flagrantly breached people's trust and it has no confidence Yorke would not be of a further risk to the community if released.

Yorke has been told to recover the ground she's lost before appearing before the board again next year.
