Murderer recalled to prison for parole breach

5:01 pm on 27 September 2010

One of the men jailed in relation to the 1994 murder of Christchurch woman Ann-Maree Ellens has been recalled to prison.

Michael October was freed five years ago, but is understood to have breached his parole conditions and is now in custody awaiting a Parole Board hearing.

Meanwhile, Richard Genge, who is serving a life sentence for Ms Ellens's rape and murder, has been denied parole.

The board says Genge, 36, is not interested in attending the Violence Prevention Unit and will not co-operate with Corrections Department psychologists.

Genge is seeking an independent psychological report on his case.

The third offender, Samuel Kirner, was released on parole in March 2005.
