Plea for more resources to fight cot deaths

8:16 pm on 28 September 2010

The general manager of Maori Sudden Infant Death Syndrome says more needs to be done to stop Maori babies dying in their cots.

Kodi Hapi says that more than 60% of SIDS cases are Maori but with only five staff the organisation doesn't have the resources to get its message out widely.

Ms Hapi told Waatea News her organisation is looking to partner with other organisations who can get the information out to whanau about how to cut down the risks their new-borns face.

She says that often the whanau of babies most at risk are isolated from services and health professionals.
