TVNZ heads personally apologise to Sir Anand

The Governor-General has accepted an apology from the heads of Television New Zealand for comments made by former presenter Paul Henry.

Henry resigned as co-presenter of TV1's Breakfast show after he sparked a diplomatic incident by ridiculing the name of Delhi's Chief Minister.

On a separate occasion, interviewing Prime Minister John Key, he implied that Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand did not look or sound like a New Zealander.

TVNZ's chief executive, Rick Ellis, and its chair, Sir John Anderson, met Sir Anand and his wife on Thursday and delivered a written apology.

Sir Anand says he now considers the matter closed and will not be commenting further.
