2nd bid this season by Counties Manukau for Shield

12:58 pm on 16 October 2010

Counties Manukau make a second attempt this season on the Ranfurly Shield when they play Canterbury in Christchurch on Saturday.

The Steelers came close against Southland in round three of the provincial rugby championship, but the Stags held onto the Shield until last weekend.

The game begins at 5.30pm. It is Canterbury's first defence since losing the Shield to Southland last year.

Canterbury first won the Ranfurly Shield in 1927 and has held it 13 times since then.

The trophy was donated by the Earl of Ranfurly in 1904.
