SH One extension feared

9:08 am on 18 November 2010

A Warkworth woman living near a proposed four lane extension to State Highway One north of Auckland, says it will devastate people's homes and livelihoods if it goes ahead as planned.

The Transport Agency announced the suggested route for the 18km Puhoi - Warkworth route on Wednesday.

Sharon Barber says she was told on Tuesday that an on-ramp for the new highway would be beside her property.

But because it will not go through it, the Transport Agency will not buy her home and Ms Barber is worried its value will plummet.

The highway will cross 55 properties in a predominately rural area. It will cost about $1.3 billion.

The plan is now open for public consultation until the end of next year.
