Student not happy about pending closure of engineering school

11:24 am on 18 November 2010

A Massey University engineering student in Wellington is angry about a university proposal to close the school and give fee grants of $5000 to students who move to its sister campuses.

Massey says it is better to close the school, which has 42 students, than be stuck with a loss of $750,000 per year.

Second year student Roy Matthews says the proposal was sprung on students after their final exam last Tuesday and they are still reeling from it.

He says some engineering students will be left out of pocket as they have already put down bonds on flats for next year.

A decision on the school's future will be made next month.
