Three Australian sailors have admitted stealing a front-end loader during a drunken night out in New Plymouth.

The sailors from New South Wales were on leave from HMAS Kanimbla.

After a night out drinking last month, they smashed the loader into another vehicle and nearby buildings causing $30,000 of damage.

The sailors, aged 22, 23 and 28, were granted name suppression by New Plymouth District Court.

A police spokesperson said the charges will be dropped if the sailors pay for the damage because it was a first-time offence.
