TVNZ defends chief executive's spending

Television New Zealand is defending its chief executive's use of its company credit card, saying the $140,000 spent was for legitimate business expenses.

TVNZ has confirmed the amount of Rick Ellis' credit card spending for the two year period ending in June, but will not release all the details, saying they are commercially sensitive.

A spokesperson says all of the expenditure is funded by TVNZ commercial revenues, no taxpayer funding was used and all expenses were checked and signed off in accordance with TVNZ's credit card policy.

The spokesperson says TVNZ will be happy to provide the Minister of Broadcasting with any detail or information he may require about the expenses.
