Police in Wellington say there have been no reports of damage from the region's second quake in three days.
The quake, at 2.19am on Friday, had a magnitude of 4.7. Centred 10 kilometres north-east of Upper Hutt, it had a depth of 30 kilometres.
GNS Science says it was felt widely in the lower North Island and upper South Island.
Tuesday's Wellington earthquake was of magnitude 4.5 and was centred 20 kilometres north-west of the city.
