Thai assurances not convincing, says McCully

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully says assurances by Thai authorities about the deaths of four people, including a New Zealander, staying at the same hotel are unconvincing.

Thai police are investigating the deaths of New Zealander Sarah Carter, a British couple and a Thai tour guide, who all stayed at the Downtown Inn in Chiang Mai last month.

Chiang Mai's governor says the deaths are nothing more than coincidence.

But Mr McCully, who last week ordered a New Zealand report into the investigation of the deaths, says the comments by Thai authorities are less than convincing and further investigation of the deaths is needed.
