Orion to be used on Anzac Day

3:35 pm on 22 April 2011

An Air Force Orion is to be used for a series of Anzac Day flypasts on Monday.

Weather permitting, the Orion will fly first over Auckland's Waikumete Cemetery commemoration service at 6am on Monday, then over Christchurch just before 8am and New Plymouth at 10am.

The aircraft will repeat its flypast at Waikumete Cemetery at 11am during a service held by the Returned and Services Association.

On Anzac Day last year, three airmen died when an Iroquois helicopter crashed on its way to a dawn service in Wellington.

One crewman survived the crash. A Defence Force report on the incident has yet to be made public.
