The man accused of murdering his former girlfriend Carmen Thomas has pleaded not guilty in the High Court at Auckland.

Ms Thomas's dismembered body was found in a crude grave in the Waitakere ranges last year.

Bradford Callaghan, who is the father of her son, was charged with her murder. His not guilty plea was entered on Wednesday morning.

His lawyer, Stuart Grieve, says his client will remain in custody until February, when a trial is due to begin.
