The next Governor-General has been knighted by the Queen in London.
The former chief of the Defence Force, Lieutenant General Sir Jerry Mateparae, received the honour at Buckingham Palace.
He will succeed Sir Anand Satyanand as Governor-General at the end of August, for a five-year term.
