Detailed plans for major transport improvements in Wellington are due to be unveiled next month.

The proposed inner-city state highway projects will form part of the expressway from Wellington to Levin - classified by the Government a road of national significance.

The full set of proposals will include specific plans for improvements around the Basin Reserve, duplication of the Mount Victoria Tunnel and widening of Ruahine Street and Wellington Road.

The Transport Agency says the plans will be released for public comment on 2 July and people will have eight weeks to make submissions.

The agency says it will meet with all affected property owners between now and July to discuss the proposals.
