Name suppression continued for home invasion suspects

Name suppression has been continued for three men arrested during an armed offenders siege in Wainuiomata on 24 June.

The men are facing numerous charges relating to a home invasion in Upper Hutt earlier in June.

During that incident, Silverstream couple Malcolm and Yvonne Wiffen were held at gunpoint in their home and robbed of tens of thousands of dollars in cash.

The charges against the men before the Lower Hutt District Court include unlawfully detaining the Wiffens and possession of an offensive weapon.

The men's lawyers sought continued name and identification suppression, saying identity would be an issue at trial.

Judge Geoffrey Ellis granted the request and remanded the men in custody to reappear in court on 19 July.
