'Handful' of NZ Toyotas affected by latest recall

Toyota New Zealand says only a handful of cars in New Zealand are affected by the company's latest recall.

More than 100,000 Toyota hybrid vehicles are being recalled globally due to problems with a power supply circuit.

Toyota New Zealand general manager of customer services, Spencer Morris, says neither of the affected Highlander and Lexus models were sold new in this country.

But he says up to 50 may have been imported second hand from Japan.

Mr Morris says in New Zealand the cars are known as the Toyota Kluger and the Lexus Harrier, and each will need a two-hour repair job to replace the faulty circuit.

He says Toyota will contact the owners of the vehicles in the coming days and arrange to repair them free of charge.
