New stadium delayed by review

Delays in the rebuilding of Stadium Southland are being caused by a review of the plans for the structure.

The stadium, which collapsed in a heavy snow storm last year, is to be rebuilt on the original site.

Following a peer review of the plans by the losing bidder for the contract, Invercargill City Council has asked the architect for more information.

The issue relates to the truss system on the new building.

Stadium Southland Trust acting head Alan Dennis says he is confident the delay will only be for a few weeks and the stadium will open as planned in March next year.

Work on the foundations is now complete.
