Police in Whanganui are looking for two rifles missing from the property of a man last seen at his Pitangi Track home in May.

Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Kirby says police found out about the guns during the homicide investigation into the disappearanceof 47-year-old Brett Hall.

One of the weapons is a .223 Ruger bolt action rifle, the other a .22 semi-automatic of an unknown brand.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kirby says the rifles have been seen at the property by people interviewed during the investigation.

Police want to hear from anyone in Whanganui or Manawatu who might have sold the rifles in the past two years, or from whom they might have been stolen.

Police are also following up sightings of a Nissan Terrano vehicle at Bulls, 60km from the property, in late May.

The vehicle was seen near the Pitangi Track property around the time of Mr Hall's disappearance.
