Heavy fog causes Auckland flight delays

8:52 am on 13 August 2011

Heavy fog disrupted a number of flights in and out of Auckland Airport on Saturday.

Early morning regional flights were suspended, until visibility improved, though services to and from Wellington and Christchurch continued to operate.

Wellington Airport was also shrouded in fog, but flights were taking off and landing mostly to schedule. There were some few delays caused by the Auckland disruptions.

MetService forecaster Geoff Sanders said the fog was due to clear from Auckland Airport about 11am but high cloud could cause it to hover across the rest of the region throughout the afternoon.
