Five people have been arrested after Customs officers seized $1 million worth of cocaine at Auckland International Airport.
Police say a joint surveillance operation joint with Customs involving about 20 detectives and investigators has disrupted a cocaine importing syndicate.
They say the arrests followed the discovery of 3.7 kilograms of the drug during a baggage search by Customs staff at the airport last week.
A 43-year-old man from Mexico, an Auckland woman 26, an Auckland man, 30, and a Wellington man, 34, are charged with importing and possessing a class A controlled drug.
A 36-year-old man from Wanaka was charged in Christchurch on Monday with importing a class A controlled drug.
