Police await results on body found in drain

7:37 pm on 16 January 2012

Police are waiting on a post-mortem to determine if the death of a man whose body was discovered in a stormwater drain in Wellington was suspicious or accidental.

The body was found in the drain near Chaffers Marina on the waterfront on Sunday and removed that night.

A car park near the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa, remains cordoned off and site investigations are continuing on Monday.

Detective Inspector Paul Basham says the man's death remains unexplained at this stage and it is unusual to find a body in a storm water culvert.
