Police investigating a double homicide in Auckland say an Iraqi man charged with a weapons offence is likely to face more charges.
Two people were found dead inside a central city apartment in Vogel Lane about 10.30am on Saturday.
A specialist police team spent 2½ hours talking with the man, who was armed with a knife, before he was led from the building and arrested.
A 30-year-old will appear in court on Monday charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
Police say the man had gone to the Alpha building to visit a woman but she managed to get away from him.
They say it appears to have been a domestic incident and no one else is being sought in connection with the deaths.
Police say a scene examination has been carried out and they are now canvassing for witnesses.
Post-mortems are to be carried out on Sunday. Police confirmed that one of the victims is male.
