Two men arrested in connection with the death of a Lower Hutt man have been remanded in custody to reappear in court in February.
Police say officers went to a house in Stokes Valley about 9pm on Thursday after receiving reports of a fight.
Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Cooper says the officers found people performing first aid on a 27-year-old man, who was then taken to Hutt Hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. He says preliminary results of a post-mortem indicate he died as a result of a stab wound to the chest.
Mr Cooper says two men, aged 20 and 22, later presented themselves at Lower Hutt Police Station and have been charged with common assault.
A scene examination has been underway for much of Friday and will continue over the weekend.
