Power pylon risk noted by coroner

A coroner has drawn public attention to the death of a man who climbed an electric power pylon, as a reminder and a warning.

Kheirrson Pukeroa, 22, of Manukau, died after falling from a pylon near Mercer last March.

According to a statement made to the police by a friend, Mr Pukeroa decided to climb the tower for fun and was 13 metres up when electricity sparked, there was a buzzing sound and he fell to the ground.

Coroner Peter Ryan says he believes the dangers of electricity pylons are well known.

Even so, he says he is publicising his findings so the risks are once again drawn to public attention.
