A police team from Whangarei has joined a search for a man believed to have drowned in floodwaters, south of Russell.
Kerry Michael Witt, 40, of Kawakawa is believed to have drowned.
The body of his wife, Lavona Cherrington, 49, was found by neighbours on Wednesday, trapped in a fence more than 1km downstream.
The couple lived beside the Waikare Creek and had parked their cars on the far side, after flood warnings.
It is thought they were swept away as they tried to cross the swollen stream on foot.
