IHC complains to Human Rights Commission

Government policies for educating disabled children are being challenged.

The advocacy group, IHC, has complained to the Human Rights Commission that the Government discriminates against disabled students.

IHC says they are not getting a fair deal at their local schools, despite the Government's policy supporting the right of all to go to a local school.

It says many parents struggle to get the support their children need and often end up paying for help themselves, because of a funding shortfall.

IHC says the problem will not be solved, while the Ministry of Education insists that schools and boards of trustees are ultimately responsible for the issue.
